God’s Tribe is a Gospel centred Church in Dar es Salaam. We love God, love people and love the city. With Jesus Christ as our foundation, we are excited about building people in God and building the city of Dar.
We are a diverse group of people and our diversity signifies that Jesus Christ died to redeem people from every tribe, language, people and nation. We accept each other just as we are, because that is how God accepts us. However, we know that God loves us too much to leave us the same – that is why he sent his Son Jesus to die for us.
Our most important job is to help people become followers of Jesus. So while we have a very high view of strong authentic community, we do not exist only for ourselves. We are a community on a mission to reach those who have yet to encounter Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God.
WHO WE ARE
Sheshi Kaniki was born in Dar es Salaam Tanzania in 1975. Three years later his family left Tanzania and he spent the next 34 years living in several countries across the world, mainly in Southern Africa. He is married to Trudie, a Zimbabwean national, and they have three sons and one daughter. They lived in South Africa for over nine years. During this time Sheshi served as an elder at GodFirst Church in Johannesburg for about eight years.
It was while living in South Africa that God spoke to Sheshi about returning to the city of his forefathers. God called him to help rebuild the city and people’s lives through planting churches. Sheshi, Trudie and their children arrived in Dar es Salaam in December 2012.
Kelvin and Belinda Massingham are originally from Cape Town in South Africa. They also arrived in Dar es Salaam in December 2012, with their three children. Their friendship with the Kanikis started in 2003.
Kelvin and Belinda served on the leadership team of Jubilee Community Church in Cape Town for 15 years. Over the years, God had spoken to them about going to other nations to rebuild broken walls in people’s lives through church planting.
The Massinghams now live in Nairobi and are part of the Advance church plant there.
During the course of 2013, God graciously brought together a wonderful team of people to start God’s Tribe. After several months of meeting from house to house, prayer and fasting, sharing our vision, and teaching our values, God’s Tribe launched on 8 September 2013.
We warmly invite you to join us as we pursue this exciting journey of establishing a church that will build people’s lives and build the city.
